Music for Real is a weekly column printed by The Burlington Union and written by the faculty at the Real School of Music in Burlington.
This week, Dave Reffett explains how to choose the right instructor. Ultimately, a music school's goal is to not only teach how to play an instrument but to also inspire. 

He says there are three  things to consider when picking a teacher:
  1. Is the teacher qualified?
  2. Does the teacher’s musical style and influences match up with the student's?
  3. Is there good chemistry between the teacher and student?

Music for Real "Becoming a Drummer for a Band" by Dave Reffett

Have you been taking drum lessons and starting to wonder when you can start playing in a band?

If yes, you can’t miss this chosen column written by Dave Reffett, a member of the guitar faculty at Real School in “Music for Real,” a weekly column published in various community newspapers and on Wicked Local Burlington.

The column was titled "Music for Real: Becoming a drummer for a band."  Dave responded to a question sent by a drum student from Winchester about how long it takes for a beginner to develop the skills needed to play in a beginner band. Dave gave thorough suggestions from necessary equipments to important skills and tips on how to become a better drummer.
