Real School always 'brings it' to Andover Day, but 2017 was a whole new level.

Estimates of over 10,000 people came out to enjoy Andover Day 2017 on Saturday, September 9th. Billed as the biggest street fair in the Merrimack Valley, Andover Day kicks off the fall with a bang of music, crafts, food, and raffles.

With over 650 weekly Andover-area families calling Real School its musical home away from home, there's always of big presence of students and faculty performing on the main stage and the community stage. But with an amazing line up of students, faculty, and alumni, 2017 was at a whole new level.

Kicking off and headlining the day on the main stage, a Queen Tribute Band of faculty and select students performed a set of classic Queen songs. Led by voice instructor Matthew Condon-Rivera, the band included instructors Jim Zaroulis on keyboards, Matt Fisher on guitar, Dani Fortner on drums, and Roger Kimball on bass.

The featured vocal students were Lauren Brennan, Zephyr Flanigan (featured on Killer Queen), Jenna Holiday (featured on Under Pressure), Jackie Pallazola, Colby Stack, Alex Vassilopoulos, and Ivanna Zamora.

1/2 Step Down, a Real School ensemble led by Jim Zaroulis, performed a great set Hendrix tunes before cutting it short due a passing shower (the only one of the day, unfortunately!). Featuring the super talented Real School and RealJams Academy alumni Maddy Roop on vocal and keys, the students included Connor Powell on guitar, Sean Vumbaco on bass, and Mike Samse on drums.

A huge event like Andover Day takes months of behind-the-scenes planning. Real School is proud to be a part of it by organizing and contributing to the live music, staging, and sound production. Heading up that effort each year is Andrew Clark, Director of Woodwind Instruction.

"Andover Day is a big celebration for this community and it is a lot of fun for us to participate every year," said Andrew. "We enjoy helping the Andover Business Community Association organize the entertainment for the event and we provide some talent as well!"

Andrew conculded, "It is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to the people who live and work here in the Andover area. We look forward to being a part of Andover Day for many years to come."
