Featured Real School Students: Alex, Liz and Emma

It's round two of The Real School of Music's featured students, and today we are highlighting Alex, Liz and Emma - three singer/songwriters. From those just beginning to seasoned veterans, you can see some of our students on our Meet the Students page online. We'll be featuring them over the next week with links to their music if we have them. You can catch these students in our upcoming showcases as well! Beginning Friday, December 7th from 7-8PM, and running daily through December 23rd where we cap off an incredible month with a final showcase at Johnny D's in Cambridge for our RealSchool Live! Ensembles.
Alex Markoski
Alex MarkoskiAlex Markoski has been playing guitar in 2008 and began singing since 2011. He takes lessons from two instructors at the Real School: Chris McKenneyand Vykki Vox. He has had an impressive 170+ combined performances as a solo artist, and as part of two bands formed at Real School: a duet, Beyond The Obvious, and his ensemble with Bill Doss simply named, DOSS. Additionally, Alex plays in two other bands, The Cranks and popALERT. 
Notable performances include The Hard Rock Cafe in Boston numerous times, Patriot Place at Gillette Stadium, Showcase Live at Gillette Stadium, Hampton Beach Seashell Stage, Boston City Hall Plaza, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Camplified National Tour, numerous music festivals, numerous restaurants, numerous charity events (with a focus on anti-bullying awareness), numerous local showcases, battle of the band competitions, and town events.
Alex recently played at the Keene Pumpkinfest with 80,000 people in attendance. He has also opened for international acts such as The Guggenheim Grotto, The Jon Pousette-Dart Band, The Energy, Remember September, Ayla Brown, & Buddha Monk of the Wu Tang Clan. Alex has also performed songs on stage at The Hard Rock Cafe together with The Voice Finalist, James Massone and Marc Delcore (musical director for Usher, Britney Spears, and others).
Alex is also responsible for many of the material that his bands play. "As a songwriter, I have over 40 songs written as of January 2012 covering several genres and styles. Many of my songs are performed in my bands including every song on the DOSS EP, 'Losing Time'".
In addition to his solo project and two bands, Alex was also a member of "Ignorance," a band formed for what was supposed to be a single event. "We were eventually selected as finalists in the 2010 Music On and Up competition from hundreds of submitted applications from across the US," Alex says. In the competition at The Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, the band won "Best 15 and Under Band Performance."
The following year, Beyond the Obvious was selected as finalists in the 2011 Music On and Up competition. In the competition at The Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, the duet won the "Greatest Potential Performer" award and advanced to the grand finale round. They also opened a show for international recording artists, The Guggenheim Grotto.
Liz Johnson
Liz is a 16 year old singer/songwriter from Massachusetts. She hasliz johnson performed at Johnny D's in Boston, and was recently a featured artist of the month at The Real School of Music where she is a voice student of Lydia Harrell. She was also a finalist in a youth talent competition in Arizona recently! Liz is currently writing and recording songs in Boston and New York City. Emma Crowley
Emma Crowley is a singer/songwriter from Boston, MA. Emma has been singing, writing her own songs, playing piano and guitar since age 5. In the past 3 years, she has been recording songs and currently has two albums onemma crowley iTunes, and is hoping to release new singles next year. Her musical accomplishments include singing at birthday parties, house concerts, open mic nights, and a Lexington Festival of the Arts. She is now a voice student of Lydia Harrell. "The Real School of Music made me realize how much I love singing and music. I always feel like I can achieve whatever I set my mind to; the encouragement is amazing."
