Occasionally we get notes and emails from students and parents describing the impact Real School has had in their lives. Just this morning I received a very nice letter from a Real School parent that I felt compelled to share.
I just wanted to let you know that I am seeing your vision for the Real School of Music come to life right in front of my eyes. My son started studying Music Production, and has now expanded to include piano lessons and voice lessons. He now heads over to Real School on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and he is absolutely loving it.
He actually came home the other night from his piano lesson and excitedly showed us the sheet music to "jingle bells" and then rushed down to the basement to start playing it. Jingle Bells? This is a kid who does vocals in a death metal band getting all excited that he is playing jingle bells. I guarantee you that if we took him to any other music school and he came home with this assignment he would have hated it. But your approach has him totally excited.
I think the "Real Moment" for him was when in his free trial lesson for piano his teacher told him, "I'm not going to teach you how to play the piano, I'm going to teach you how to play music." That, in a nutshell, is what I think Real School is all about...
I just want thank you for coming up with the idea of Real School in the first place. It has given my son a place where his passion for music can be turned into something — appropriately enough — very "real".
David, we're happy to hear that your son has been so activated by his Real School experience! You are right... I loved reading that his instructor said "I'm not going to teach you how to play the piano, I'm going to teach you how to play music." This is at the very core of what Real School is all about!
Thank you for your letter, David. We're so glad to have you and your family as a part the Real School community.
