FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BURLINGTON, MA, March 6, 2017 --- The Real School of Music is pleased to announce Erik Ringstad as the new Director of Guitar Instruction.Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Erik began studying classical piano at age four with his grandmother, a concert pianist, before transitioning to the guitar at age fifteen. Erik is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music with dual major in Jazz Composition and Guitar Performance with a minor in Music Synthesis (now called Electronic Production and Design). He graduated with honors, winning the Performance Division Award.
A celebrated guitar instructor since joining Real School in August 2009, Erik was promoted to the Director of Curriculum in 2011 to develop a unique and highly-effective seven year guitar curriculum framework. His work in this area will populate a web-based Learning Management System that will be licensed to music schools worldwide.
The recipient of Real School’s prestigious Employee of the Year Award in 2015, Erik will continue to develop curriculum in addition to his new role leading the guitar department.
Of his career at Real School and new position, Erik said, "I was inspired to come to Real School because I believed that it was a place where I could leave a legacy. In this new role, I'm looking forward to adding to my work as Director of Curriculum by contributing to the ongoing development of the guitar department and the faculty advisory board."
Although active with many bands, Erik’s original music group, Acousticity, is his most notable. This acoustic guitar duo released two albums -- Sky City and Music for 20 Fingers in the 1990s. Acousticity was named one of Musician Magazine’s Best Unsigned Bands, and was a finalist in the Pizza Hut New Music Search and the Acoustic Underground Competition. They were even invited to perform at Symphony Hall’s 100th Birthday celebration.
A gigging musician for 38 years and a teacher for 35, Erik has been writing and recording original music for over 30 years with approximately 1000 titles to his name. He has also been performing with fellow Real School instructor and Director of Voice Instruction,Vykki Vox, for the past 20 years.
